Such a Gingery Day :)

Over Christmas, I had some ginger ale left after a party. It was going a little flat and I wanted to enhance the flavor a little so decided to add some ginger to it to give it a little more gingery, spicy, snappy flavor. I just added a teaspoon or so (I am not really sure how much) to a glass and added the ginger ale. After it sat a while, I poured it through a strainer and then drank it. Well, it worked and we actually liked it that way pretty well. So I decided to try it again. I bought a two liter of ginger ale and this time I decided to add the ginger right into the bottle of ginger ale and then strain it as I drank it. It seemed to be working fine, but after 30 seconds or so, I noticed that the ginger ale was starting to foam a little. I decided to put the lid back on. As soon as I did, not only was it foam, but it began spewing everywhere! I never did get the lid back on and maybe that was good because we could have had an explosion. I sort of let out a screech, overreacting like...

My Memory File

Since my husband and I get so many notes, cards, etc, from all my grand kids,  I finally decided to start a memory file.  Instead of trying to save every little paper, I have begun taking pictures of all the little treasures that each grand child has given us.  This is my first go around.  I have lots of other memories already tucked away and just decided to start with the most recent of my treasures.  True, this is mostly for myself, but if you are interested, scan through the pictures and see for yourself all the treasure that come from having a house full of love.  God is so good to me!

44 Household Tips and Hints

Below are just some household tips and hints. I have not tried all these so can’t tell if they work or not.  You can try them at your own risk. I don’t even know where I found all these.  I guess I just gathered them up here and there hoping to try them.  So if you see one that I have “stolen” , please let me know because that is the last thing I want to do.    I know there are many many more tips than I could even list!  One thing I love to do is get a hold of those little books that list lots and lots of tips.  I can always find something that sounds good and that I want to try.  If you know a great tip or a great homemaking website, would you do me a favor and leave a comment below with your tip or your website or both.  I would love to add to this.  Thanks so much! 1. Remove a laundry stain from clothing as soon as you know it is there. 2.  Easy oven clean-ammonia on aluminum pie pan in your oven overnight....

A Special Day with my Grand daughter

Our oldest granddaughter, Kylie, had her 11th birthday this week! We had a special day together. We spent a few hours together - just the two of us. We had such a good time! Kylie chose a place to eat (Pizza Inn) and after we got filled up there we did a little shopping and I let Kylie pick out some things she would like for her birthday. She is so easy to please and was most grateful! We enjoyed Pizza Inn, The Mighty Dollar, Burkes, Claires, and the Dollar Tree. The best part was just being together. I love all our grand kids and am thankful that Kylie knows the Lord Jesus as her Savior. I look forward to the day when all of our grand kids are saved. Times here together are precious, but how much more precious that we can spend all eternity together! Below is a video clip of Kylie at Pizza Inn. Below are some more picture of Kylie and myself.  It was a rainy, cold day in May :), but we still had fun.

Eyeglasses

Recently I have had my eyes tested twice.  I went for a regular check up to the eye dr. just a few months ago.  As you get a little older, good eye health is important to me.  I came away with a  good report and was thankful.  Yes, I have to wear reading glasses, but that’s not so bad and you can buy them very inexpensively.  But just a little while after that check up, something weird happened to me one day.  I was sitting in a ladies meeting and all of a sudden,  I couldn’t see very well and there were “things” in front of my eyes and flashes of light to the side.   It went away within a few seconds, but kept reoccurring every so often.  Because of that,  I felt it necessary to get checked again.  This time I went to see an ophthalmologist.  Sometimes, while you think there may end up to be some sort of change you begin looking at eyewear sites to see if you can find something you like – you know – just in case. Here w...

Does God give Gifts through trials? - Another True Story

The following testimony is an amazing story of our newest grandson, Caleb and the trials that his daddy and mommy experienced at his birth. The testimony is written by Caleb's daddy. James 1:16-17 Says: “Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Before our Son Caleb was born, I had a different understanding of these verses. Now, you might think that Caleb is the "good gift" that I'm thinking of when I quote these verses and indeed he is a very good gift for which I am thankful. When he was born as many of you know, he had problems, his lungs were not quite ready to breath air. As a result, he had to spend two weeks in the Infant ICU at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte. My immediate thought when I realized what was happening was why me? These things happen to other people, but not to me. I also kept thinking to mysel...

Miracle–Another True Story

This is Miracle Miracle has a name that fits.  Let me tell you why.  First of all, Miracle’s mama died when he was two days old.  He had to be nursed along and as you can see he survived! That definitely was a miracle!   But Miracle’s name also fits for another reason.  That reason has to do with the following true story.  R_____, a friend of mine was having a rough year.  She was going through some trying times and some “down” times.  Several things were taking place in the lives of her family members. R_____ has a daughter and son-in-law who have five children and they are currently on deputation to raise support to go to the mission field.  This has always been the heart’s desire of her daughter and now the Lord was giving her that desire.  But right in the middle of this, her daughter was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Another daughter was pregnant with their fourth child.  The doctors kept telling them there...

Below is the first part of C.H. Spurgeon sermon on Love for the Prodigal Son.  You can go to You Tube and watch the other parts on Mr.Whitley's channel .

34 Reason Why I Married the Right Man

This past Saturday was our 34th wedding anniversary!  I can hardly believe that it has been 34 years.  God has been so good to us and blessed us in so many ways.  I am thankful for the years that the Lord has given us together and I want to share 34 reasons why I know I married the right man.  I was willing to wait for the right person.   This took a little doing because I nearly married the wrong person a few years earlier.  God protected me.  I am so glad I waited!   He loves the Lord wholeheartedly.  He did then and does now. We hit it off right away. We spent our time serving the Lord while dating.  It wasn’t just about us. My husband was and still is a family oriented man. My husband loves me for who I am and has since day one. I love him for who he is and did since day one. We have come through good and bad together and have worked through trials together while trusting the Lord. He is my best friend. He is th...

Having a Great Granny is GREAT!

My mother-in-law has been with us for a couple of days.  Not only is she a blessing as a mother-in-law, but she has been a great blessing to my children as their granny and now to my grand children as their great granny.  How many children really get to interact with their great grandmother?  Including grand children and great grand children she has over 80.  We lose count after a while. Recently she was in an accident and we thought she would be in a wheelchair for a year, but our God does miracles!  It is a miracle to see her walking and getting around on her own. It was a joy seeing her hold her newest great grand son and our newest grand son, Caleb.  That in itself is a miracle as we wondered for a while if Caleb would be with us.  He was born with underdeveloped lungs and was in the NICU for a while.  God answered many prayers and allowed him to come home earlier than expected. Here is a picture of Caleb. I don’t have a picture of Granny ...

9 Characteristics of a Christian’s Music

I love to listen and sit under the influence of Dr. Don Scovill, music chairman of Ambassador Baptist College and music director at our church, Maranatha Baptist Church of Shelby, NC. He has been teaching in Sunday School on music.  Last Sunday he gave us 9 characteristics of a Christian’s Music.  Truly, the music of a Christian ought to be different from that of the world. My music must show my changed life or regenerated experience.  If there is no change, then we have a defective salvation or perhaps, no salvation.  2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. My music should show ownership. We are not our own.  We belong to Christ.  Be careful what you put into your body, mind, and soul.  Does it reflect the ownership of Christ? 1 Corinthians 6:19-20  What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which y...

The Goodness of God Leadeth thee to Repentance - A True Story

Below is a true story of a man that was changed by the grace of God. I am glad to share this story as I have seen first hand that his life has been changed! (2Cor. 5:17) "...not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" - Rom. 2:4 Today I must declare the goodness of God by sharing a story with you and perhaps challenge even my own heart and maybe the heart of another in how good God is. In October of 2009 there was a 26 year old man named Travis Berryhill living the life of a homeless drunk on the streets of Shelby. He had ruined every friend and family relationship that he had and although there were multiple places he used to live and jobs he used to have, these were all destroyed by drink (a topic for another day but if you play with this sin remember what GOD has said: "At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like and adder") and there was no place for him to sleep but at the homeless shelter, under a railroad bridge, in hi...

Lockhart Update – July through October

Guess it has been a while since I posted any family updates.  The Last one was in June .  Busy, Busy, Busy, but life goes on and we are one day closer to being with the Lord!  Mel was off for a couple days in July and we were able to go to the Blue Ridge and enjoy riding and hiking and meditating on the goodness of God and His creation. Psalms 90:1-2  <<A Prayer of Moses the man of God.>> Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.   Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. This month was Jeremy and Esther’s 7th anniversary.  Since 7 is the number of perfection, I told them this will be the perfect year.  They have been facing many trials in Brazil and we never realize what missionaries might go through until it hits so close to home.  You can keep up with their life in Brazil right here . VBS at Ma...
