Psalms 90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Can someone be glad in his affliction?
Romans 8:28-29 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
God can take our afflictions and use them for our good. Jacob went through much affliction when he thought he lost Joseph, his son, when in actuality it was God's plan for saving the nation Israel. Surely Jacob was "glad" when he found out that Joseph was alive and that his life and the lives of his family would be saved. Affliction can ultimately bring gladness and cause us to learn more of God's statutes.
Psalms 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
Trusting God in and through affliction can bring true joy and gladness and cause us to know God in a more intimate way.
